Green Papaya with Sardines Recipe

I love looking at my papaya tree, actually trees because we have three. I remember it was about a little over 9 months since I bought a ripe papaya at the groceries and decided to spill the seeds on our ground by the backyard. Now fastforward, the trees have fruits already and the sight is awesome! A friend of mine, who is pregnant, asked for a fruit for her tinolang manok and its great to be able to share.

Do you have a papaya tree at home? Do you know that you don’t have to wait for the fruits to ripen to be able to eat it? There are a number of filipino vegetable recipes out there that uses green papaya as an ingredient. I remember when I was a child, my mom used to cook papaya with sardines and it was delicious. I decided to make a version of it here.

Now here goes my Green Papaya with Sardines Recipe

1. Slice the green papaya in half and scrape the seeds and the whitish layer. Slice to bits.

2. Crush the cloves of garlic. Slice the onions.

3. Saute the garlic till brown. Add in the onions and saute till transparent.

4. Add the papaya in and saute for about 3 minutes.

5. Add in the sardines, fish sauce, black pepper and water. Bring to boil.
6. Stir once in a while and wait for the papaya to soften. Add water as necessary. I usually prefer more sauce because my baby loves more sauce to be mixed with the rice. Add in salt. Simmer for a minute.

7. It is great to top this green papaya with sardines recipe over really hot rice. Serve and enjoy!
