Beef Stew Recipe

When I cook beef stew, I always go to for reference. I think the beef stew there is great. The paprika and the celery stalk make the taste unique from other beef stew recipes. So I’m going to use their beef stew recipe for the other half of the beef I reserved for this dish.

If you haven’t read my bulalo recipe, I’d like to tell you that I bought a kilo of beef, boiled all of it and store half of it in the freezer and use half for my bulalo dish. We are actually only 3 in the family, me and my husband and our baby. You may do this also if there are only few of you and don’t want to eat the same beef recipe over and over during the week. Besides, boiling the beef takes hours so it’s better to soften a large batch and store some in the fridge.

This was the other half of the boiled beef I set aside for my beef stew recipe. I took this out of the fridge, so you could see the fat there. Remove the fat off.

So.... without much further ado, here's how to cook your beef stew. :)

1. Boil the water and add the beef, onion, garlic and peppercorn. Simmer for 2 hours. Add water as necessary.

2. If your beef has already been boiled and stored in the fridge, just like mine, you only have to re-boil it. Add paprika, beef cube and bay leaf. I also added 2 more cups of water because the water has reduced during the boiling process before dividing the beef for the beef stew and bulalo recipe. Also, some of the water was used for the latter dish. Simmer for 10 minutes.

3. Slice the carrots, potatoes and celery stalks.

Actually it’s better if you slice the carrots to bigger chunks. Mine was sliced thin and small because we’re not so fond of carrots but had to eat them. If I slice them to big chunks, they sure will not be eaten. Slicing them to bits helps.

4. Add in the vegetables and diluted cornstarch. Simmer till the potatoes and carrots soften.Add salt according to taste.

5. Serve hot and enjoy.! :)
